Misantropus

Misantropus were formed in April, 1998 in Latina (Lazio, Italy) by brothers Alessio (guitar) and Vincenzo (bass) Sanniti.
At that time the brothers had 10 years of musical experience, playing together and collaborating since 1988 in various minor heavy metal and punk/hardcore bands, where Alessio occasionally played drums. In that same year, accompanied by the first of various drummers that would follow in the years to come, they released a demo cassette containing 4 tracks of instrumental dark/doom metal, clearly influenced by Paul Chain’s albums from the 1980s and Mario “The Black” Di Donato’s previous work with Minotauro Records, as well as early Saint Vitus and Manilla Road.
In the year 2000 Alessio decided to self-produce the first Misantropus album — 10 instrumental pieces that remain even today the only example of this genre that’s ever come out of Italy. In the meantime Misantropus continued to play live, above all on the circuit of self-run social clubs and venues in Lazio. Even the great Giorgio Gaslini (jazz maestro of international fame and composer of the soundtrack of Dario Argento’s “Profondo Rosso”, which was then performed by Goblin) had some surprising words of praise for the album.
In 2003 Alessio self-produced two more tracks for another self-titled EP, on which Francesca Luce contributed “phonetic vocals”, tracks that remain to this day 
the only vocal pieces in Misantropus’ repertoire. At this time the band’s live activity intensified, and the EP found its way into the hands of the legendary Diamanda Galás who praised the album for its content and graphic design. Between 2007 and 2011 the two vinyl albums were re-issued on CD, fleshed-out by some unreleased tracks from the same session as the EP. This was, for all intents and purposes, the band’s second official album release.
In this period Misantropus evolved in both form (having read some of the works of the masters Peter Deunov and Omraam Mikhaël Aïvanhov, and having met Fulvio Rendhell) and substance (embracing themes related to the support of the environment and animal rights.) It’s worth noting that these themes of spirituality and ecology, though less explicit, were present in the band’s 
music all along.
In 2013 Doomymood released their third official album, entitled “Noeh” — 7 tracks conceptually centered on the archetypal figure of Noah, and the role he played in restoring equilibrium after the spiritual and material collapse of humanity.
2015 marks the appropriate collaboration with Marco Melzi’s Minotauro Records, the historic and pioneering label responsible for many of the foundational works of Italy’s dark/doom scene: Paul Chain, Requiem, and Mario “The Black” Di Donato.
While writing for the new album, the Sanniti brothers found themselves once again without a drummer. They decided to enter the studio as a duo, leaving Alessio with the dual responsibility of guitar and drums.
The Black” contributed a few licks, testament to the mutual friendship and esteem that they’ve developed over the years.
The conceptual significance of the new album, entitled “The Gnomes“, is once again related to environmental and spiritual themes. The album is dedicated to the four natural elements and to the entities that represent them.
